Word Rangers – Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Word Rangers ("the App"), developed and published by James Trigg ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Eligibility
The App is rated for the age group specified on the App Store product page. By using the App, you confirm that you meet the minimum age requirement set by Apple for this rating in your region. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
2. Licence
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. This licence does not allow you to distribute, sublicence, reverse-engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the App.
3. In-App Purchases and Virtual Currency
3.1 Purchases
The App offers optional in-app purchases including content unlocks (e.g. Premium Categories, Language Pack, Custom Categories, Beginner Bundle) and consumable coin packs. All purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Pricing is set in App Store Connect and displayed to you before you confirm any purchase.
3.2 Virtual Currency (Coins)
Coins are in-game currency used to access features such as clue cards, category sharing, and the Category Shop. Coins have no real-world monetary value, cannot be transferred between accounts, and cannot be exchanged for cash or credit. We reserve the right to adjust the coin economy (costs, rewards, earning rates) at any time.
3.3 Refunds
Refund requests for in-app purchases are handled by Apple under their refund policies. We do not process refunds directly. If you believe you were charged incorrectly, contact Apple Support or visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
3.4 Purchase Bonuses
Certain purchases may activate time-limited bonus windows (e.g. a 24-hour coin boost after purchasing a content unlock). These bonuses are described in the respective product descriptions in the App Store and are subject to change.
4. User-Generated Content
4.1 Custom Categories
You may create custom word-search categories. Categories you create are stored in your private iCloud account. You may choose to share them via link or submit them to the Category Shop.
4.2 Sharing and the Category Shop
By sharing a category (via link or the Category Shop), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, distribute, and make available your category content within the App. You represent that your shared content does not infringe any third party's rights.
If you later delete your data using the in-app "Delete My Data" feature, shared categories will be anonymised (your Game Center display name removed) rather than deleted, so that users who have already imported your category are not affected. The category content will remain available in the App under an anonymous attribution.
4.3 Content Standards
All shared content must comply with our Category Sharing Policy and Category Shop Policy. Content that violates these policies may be removed without notice.
5. Content Moderation and Enforcement
We moderate user-generated content through automated systems and human review. If your content violates our policies, we may:
- Remove the offending content.
- Temporarily or permanently suspend your ability to share categories.
- Restrict your access to certain features of the App.
Enforcement decisions are made at our sole discretion. You may appeal a moderation action by contacting support at support@jamestrigg.co.uk.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to exploit bugs, vulnerabilities, or glitches to gain an unfair advantage (including manipulating coin balances).
- Interfere with or disrupt the App's services, servers, or networks.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Share content that is harmful, offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise violates our content policies.
- Attempt to circumvent content moderation systems.
7. Diagnostic Logs
The App may collect diagnostic logs on your device to help us investigate issues and improve the App. Logs include technical information such as error messages, timestamps, and app state — they do not contain personal messages, passwords, or financial data. Logs are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted automatically. If you contact support and choose to attach logs, they are sent to our server over an encrypted connection and retained for up to 90 days to help resolve your issue. You may decline to share logs at any time. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
8. Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. We have designed the App to store the absolute minimum personal information. The only data that could directly identify you is your Game Center display name, and only if you explicitly choose to share it. Our Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using the App, you consent to the data practices described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, code, graphics, audio, and game mechanics, is the intellectual property of James Trigg and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Custom categories you create remain your content, subject to the licence granted in Section 4.2.
10. Third-Party Services
The App uses third-party services including Apple CloudKit, Apple Game Center, Apple StoreKit, and Google AdMob. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability, content, or practices of third-party services.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free of harmful components. Your use of the App is at your own risk.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, James Trigg shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of virtual currency, arising from your use of or inability to use the App.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
14. Termination
We may restrict or terminate your access to the App or its features if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the App at any time and delete it from your devices.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
